We -- St. John the Baptist-Duncan--acknowledge with thanksgiving that we gather on the traditional lands of the First Nations Peoples, and especially those of the Cowichan Tribes.
We, as part of the Diocese of British Columbia--the Diocese of Islands and Inlets-- further acknowledge that-- for thousands of years-- the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw peoples have walked gently on the unceded territories where we now live, work, pray, and play.
We seek to co-create a new relationship with the first peoples here, one based in honour and respect. We thank our brothers and sisters for their gracious hospitality.
We are a member parish of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia, also known as "the Diocese of Islands and Inlets"--Anglican churches of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and Kingcome Inlet on the Sunshine Coast.
In 2015, we adopted a Vision as a diocese--
Renewed Hearts, Renewed Spirits, Renewed People.
We have embarked together on a vision-fullfillment journey of discerning how God is guiding us into "living that vision to life", within our parishes, communities, and regions.
We have inherited this faith-expression from others who walked before us here over the past 150 years. That being said, we continue to commit ourselves to the work of reconciliation and relationship-building with our First Nations neighbours.
At St. John the Baptist - Duncan, we
We commit to creating and maintaining a safe community for all.
We commit to a hospitality of generosity, love, respect, and dignity for all.
We commit to
"Passion for God - Compassion for People".
