Who Has Inspired You?

This week, I noticed the acronym 'MLK' as part of a title,  MLK Still Speaks.

With a bit of research, I quickly discovered MLK stands for Martin Luther King, well known for his work for reconciliation in his country.

One of his quotes is: "The time is always right to do what is right."

I reflected on how other great leaders of the past changed prevailing thoughts through their ability to communicate with the world.

  • Winston Churchill: ‘Succss consists of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm.'

  • Desmund Tutu: ’Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.’

  • John F. Kennedy: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.’

  • Queen Elizabeth II: ‘When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future.’

  • My father (often): ‘What you don’t get done before noon you will never complete in the afternoon.’

What, or who, inspires you?

Perhaps it is not one of society's rich and famous. Maybe, it is the neighbour next door, or your father or mother. Maybe, it is the young hockey player you saw 'giving beyond' for the sake of teammates.

This week, I watched two teams play a 60-minute hockey game. Each player gave the very best for the sake of their team, and for themselves.

The word sacrifice came to mind--what each youth is giving up for a possible hockey career; the contributions made by families, coaches, and homestays.

These young players are just one example in our midst. In some way perhaps, each will have made a mark on our society for the benefit of the world.

As we prepare for Holy Week, Christians will be mindful of the one Person who continues to influence the world with everlasting values

Blessings for Holy Week,
